Detroit, Michigan – On December 14, 2013, Rhonda, the RWF Teens, friends, and Santa helped spread the holiday spirit to several families facing homelessness this season. For the eleventh year in a row, the RWF, along with Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, held a Christmas party for some of Detroit’s most deserving. Our guests of honor were treated to a wonderful meal, several surprises, face-painting, arts and crafts, and dancing, among other holiday delights. Also, a former shelter resident who overcame significant personal challenges and now works for DRMM helping to improve the lives of others gave a stirring testimony to the power of redemption and believing in yourself. Last, because no holiday party is complete without a visit from Santa, the big guy made a special early visit to deliver gifts and presents including toys, clothing, and electronic games to several overjoyed children.
“We’ve hosted Christmas For The Homeless with DRMM for eleven years now, and it remains my favorite event of the year,” said Rhonda. “I enjoy seeing the kids’ faces, and so do the Teens. Giving back to the community is important not only because of the many smiles we see here, but also because it’s the right thing to do, and especially at Christmas. Nothing warms the heart like seeing children who are facing such big hurdles light up when they rip open their gifts.”
Other guests who came out to celebrate with RWF included Rhonda’s WDIV-Local 4 colleagues, Ashlee Baracy, Evrod Cassimy, Guy Gordon, Lauren Podell, and Brandon Roux.
