In the spirit of giving, on Saturday, December 12, 2015 the Rhonda Walker Foundation (RWF) shared holiday cheer and heartfelt compassion to every woman and child at the Detroit Rescue Missions’ Genesis House II Homeless Shelter. The shelter provides transitional housing for homeless women and their children.
Recording artist KEM joined RWF this year to share words of inspiration to these wonderful and deserving families about his own journey from addiction and homelessness to a successful global music career. All 30 children and 55 women living at the shelter received a bounty gifts from toys and clothes to toiletries from 70 Secret Santa donors and a special surprise from Santa and the RWF Teens.
This is the 13th year RWF has collaborated with Genesis House II for this annual occasion, which provided an opportunity for sharing, and learning that in spite of circumstances, everyone deserves compassion and love.
“I wanted to teach our teens the responsibility we all have to serve the community and help others. I am so proud that this annual event has become a favorite among my personal family and friends and my RWF family of volunteers and teen girls,” said Rhonda Walker.
The fun and festive day included a Christmas Feast from Beans and Cornbread of Southfield, MI served by the RWF teens, face painting, arts & crafts, a DJ and dancing. Emotional testimonials from residents sharing their stories of what brought them to the shelter, provided an invaluable life lesson to the foundation teens and volunteers.
