Every spring the Rhonda Walker Foundation (RWF) hosts our annual Scholar Power Breakfast to honor the accomplishments of our graduating seniors as they complete our core five-year Girls into Women Program.
At this wonderful event, the RWF family and guests learn more about RWF and its positive impact on the teens we serve as well as honoring our hard working volunteers and mentors. Since the inception of our scholarship program over $60,000 has been awarded to our qualifying RWF seniors.
To date, 100% of Detroit Public Schools teen girls completing our program have graduated from high school and enrolled in college. We are proud to add to our accomplishments that we have a 100% college graduation rate among the teens that have completed our five year program, the best of all outcomes we could hope for.
“My dream is to literally transform these ‘Girls into Women’ while in our program over a five year period, from the 8th grade until they graduate from high school. This includes an ardent focus on instilling in every student the expectation that college is a must. It means not only preparing them for college with school visits, assistance with college applications, financial aid and scholarships but also providing support while they are in college.” – Rhonda Walker
RWF has always been a volunteer-driven organization with very little overhead which means nearly 100% of the money we raise goes straight to programs for our teens. RWF focuses on empowering at-risk but promising inner-city teens and in keeping with that theme, we need your support to make this worthwhile occasion possible for years to come. the support we receive from the community and community partners helps us to continue our mission. You can be a part of making every RWF teen’s dream of college come true by donating to our scholarship fund or sponsoring the Scholar Power Breakfast.
Thank you for your support and we hope you will join us for a future Scholar Power Breakfast!
