Mentoring

Having positive role models is a must for anyone desiring to achieve great things.  And RWF teens are no exception to that rule.  Each year, we match our teens with a carefully screened professional woman mentor, who provides strong support and critical guidance.  Although we ask our volunteer mentors to stay connected for one year, the bond often  becomes so strong that the mentoring relationship continues well beyond the commitment period.  Here’s what some of our volunteer mentors have had to say about their experiences with RWF teens:

“I believe that mentors play a very important part in a young ladies life. Being able to assist a young lady in achieving her dreams, overcoming fears, and building up her self-esteem are just a few reasons why I enjoy mentoring.

“Mentoring with the Rhonda Walker Foundation has been life changing for me and my family. I mentored a young, shy 9th grader with very low self esteem officially for a year but she truly became apart of my family. She is an outgoing college sophomore now, with strong self-esteem and confidence.”

– Stacie Robinson

“The RWF offers life-long learning’s, skills and opportunities the girls can use to empower themselves to become successful and productive members of society.

“Being a RWF mentor has been one of my most satisfying and rewarding undertakings yet. To know that I am able to make a positive impact in a young lady’s life – by providing guidance, sharing my experiences, and exposing her to different situations, opportunities and experiences she can apply to her everyday life – has been very gratifying. Most importantly, bond and friendship that’s formed is everlasting.

– Jennifer Watson

“When Rhonda asked me to join her in developing an organization to empower young teen girls, I jumped at the opportunity. Over the years, it has been a lot of hard work yet extremely rewarding. My greatest joy has been working with the young ladies on a monthly basis and seeing them blossom into beautiful and articulate young women. It was most gratifying hearing from our recent high school graduates the impact we had on their lives and what all they acquired from their involvement in RWF. It definitely puts into perspective how simple acts such as giving your time and having a genuine interest can have a lasting effect on a young girl’s well being. I’m truly grateful for this experience!”

“The Rhonda Walker Foundation family is 100% committed to our focus on empowering young women and positively impacting their lives. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share in the lives of our outstanding teen girls. Giving the gift of your time and service is one of life’s greatest rewards.”

– Kimberly Keaton Williams

“The Rhonda Walker Foundation has created a forum to support our youth in developing the necessary skills to excel in society, academics, and to be become future leaders in the community through exposing them to various activities such as team building, career planning, along with fundraising and charitable events. As a mentor, the foundation has provided an excellent opportunity to give back to the community through sharing my educational and personal experiences with our youth.”

– Sheila Bates

”I have been working with the foundation for 3 years and have enjoyed every minute. Spending time with the girls is an important part of my life goal to GIVE back to the community and I am just grateful that the young ladies we work with appreciate the time and opportunities they are afforded.”

-Jaynell Branch

“As a mentor, the sense of personal satisfaction derived from working with this group of beautiful and bright young ladies has truly been a gift. Understanding where they are while offering an experienced voice, shoulder, thought or simply an ear does as much for me as it does for them. Makes me wish RWF was around during my teenage years!”
