GIRLS INC. EXPERIENCE
Strong. Smart. Bold. Starts Here.
A school-based experience for girls in grades 3-8 that builds confidence, develops leadership and supports the whole girl through research-informed programming and trusted relationships.
The Girls Inc. Experience
RWF’s Empowering Her Success Academy has transitioned to Girls Inc. programming through the Foundation’s new affiliation with Girls Inc., operating as Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Detroit at the Rhonda Walker Foundation.
Designed for girls in grades 3-8, the Girls Inc. Experience combines meaningful relationships with trained adults, a pro-girl environment and intentional programming that supports the development of the whole girl. Participants build knowledge, confidence and skills that help them grow into healthy, educated and independent young women.
The Girls Inc. model centers on three core elements: people, environment and programming. Trained staff and volunteers build lasting mentoring relationships. A pro-girl environment creates an inclusive space grounded in respect. Interactive, culturally responsive programming helps girls discover their strengths, develop confidence and build skills they can use in school, relationships and everyday life.
What Girls Explore and Learn
Girls Inc. programming addresses the areas that shape girls academically, socially, emotionally and physically, including:
- Leadership and community action to strengthen self-expression, confidence and leadership skills
- STEM learning to encourage curiosity and build interest and skills in science, technology, engineering and math
- Health and well-being to support healthy choices, physical activity, stress management, body image and relationships
- Media literacy to help girls think critically about media messages and their influence
- Personal safety and resilience to strengthen communication, confidence and self-advocacy
- Economic literacy to build foundational financial knowledge and awareness of future work and economic independence
Girls Inc. programming is research-based and designed to respond to the needs and experiences of girls today.
School-Based Programming
Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Detroit delivers programming through a school-based model for girls in grades 3-8, bringing age-appropriate experiences directly into environments where girls already learn and grow.
This approach gives participants consistent opportunities to develop confidence, explore new interests, strengthen relationships and build skills during important years of development.
