Support Our Mission
RWF volunteers support programs, events and experiences that introduce participants to new opportunities and help them build valuable skills and relationships. Your time, knowledge and commitment can make a meaningful difference in the lives of Detroit girls and young women.
Ways to Volunteer
Volunteers contribute based on their interests, experience and availability. Opportunities may include:
- Supporting workshops, events and enrichment activities
- Sharing professional expertise or leading an educational session
- Helping participants explore careers and workplaces
- Assisting with community service and cultural experiences
- Providing administrative or event support
Become a Mentor
Mentors play an essential role in GIRLS INTO WOMEN®. Each participant is paired with a professional woman who provides consistent guidance, shares real-world knowledge and builds a trusted relationship with her throughout high school.
As a mentor, you will get to know your mentee’s goals, interests and strengths while helping her work through challenges and explore academic, career and personal opportunities. Your presence and insight can expand what she sees for herself and reinforce the confidence she needs to pursue her ambitions.
What We Look for in Mentors
RWF seeks professional women who are dependable, engaged and committed to supporting young person’s development. Mentors should be prepared to:
- Maintain consistent communication with their mentee
- Participate in designated RWF programs and activities
- Listen with care and offer honest, constructive guidance
- Introduce their mentee to new ideas, experiences and opportunities
- Model integrity, accountability and community involvement
- Honor program expectations and safeguarding requirements
Strong mentoring relationships develop through trust, consistency and time. Mentors commit to being present throughout their mentee’s participation in GIRLS INTO WOMEN®, providing continuity as she moves from eighth grade through high school graduation.
